Raushanah's Specialties
Individual Therapy & Trauma Treatment
In therapy, Raushanah helps individuals to return to a place of freedom from intrusive thoughts, negative beliefs about themselves or others, and a host of other symptoms that hinder one’s capacity to function. Trauma occurs from events that overwhelm one’s ability to cope. Sometimes individuals can recover on their own but sometimes when that does not happen, lives can become restricted; what used to be manageable, feels now to be impossible. Trauma not only affects the individual who experienced the event, but also loved ones and others who are in close proximity to the person who experienced the trauma. Time is not always the answer to healing trauma and symptoms can occur decades after an event if left untreated. Raushanah is trained in Evidenced Based Practices (EBPs), meaning practices that are well researched and have proven effectiveness for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD.)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
CPT is a one-on-one treatment for PTSD. A course of CPT lasts 12 weeks, 60 minutes each session. This is a therapy that has been widely researched and is considered a front-line treatment for PTSD due to its effectiveness. During a course of CPT, you will examine the impact your trauma history has had on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You will learn to evaluate places in your thinking where you've gotten stuck, and in turn, be able to shift how you feel and behave. CPT can be particularly helpful if you struggle a lot with self-blame, shame, and guilt.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is also a one-on-one treatment for PTSD where individuals will be asked to focus on aspects of the distressing event.
While one focuses on the upsetting event, Raushanah will begin sets of side-to-side eye movements, sounds, or taps. Individuals will be guided to notice what comes to mind after each set. You can expect shifts in insight or changes in images, feelings, or beliefs regarding the event.
A typical EMDR therapy session lasts from 60-90 minutes. EMDR therapy may be used within a standard talking therapy, as an adjunctive therapy with a separate therapist, or as a treatment all by itself.

Child Treatment
Play Therapy involves the use of toys, blocks, dolls, puppets, drawings, and games to help the child recognize, identify, and verbalize feelings. Raushanah observes how your child uses play materials and identifies themes or patterns to understand their problems. Through a combination of talk and play the child has an opportunity to better understand and manage their conflicts, feelings, and behavior.
Raushanah provides 45-minute sessions for children who are struggling with traumatic experiences, difficulty socializing with peers or family members, and difficulty with typical developmental milestones. Children benefit from having a place all their own to freely express their thoughts and feelings. While child sessions are confidential, separate and regular parent meetings are integral to the process of child therapy.
Child sessions are suspended during the current health crisis.
Couples Therapy
When individuals have a securely bonded relationship with a significant other in their life, they are free to explore, learn, grow and give to others; they feel their best when this relationship is free of conflict. What happens when something goes wrong? Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Raushanah helps couples to understand how they repeatedly fall into negative interaction patterns. EFT helps couples to process new and old wounds, and to express the loving connection each partner feels deeply but feels unable to show due to difficulty in the relationship. EFT sessions are structured to help couples to safely explore and resolve their difficulties, as well as learn ways to interact with each other in deeper and more meaningful ways.
